Galaga (part of the Namco Classics Vol. 1 PCB)

  • Players: 2 (alternating)
  • Game 1 of 7 on a multi-game PCB (Namco Classics Vol. 1)
  • Classic Galaga. One of the few games ever made which is just as fun to play now as it was when it was first released. It's such a simple concept - just shoot everything that moves, and the simple graphics are very colorful and eyecatching, and animate nicely.

Galaga ARRANGEMENT (part of the Namco Classics Vol. 1 PCB)

  • Players: 2 (alternating)
  • Game 2 of 7 on a multi-game PCB (Namco Classics Vol. 1)
  • Galaga Arrangement is another version of Galaga which has been brought up to current standards for 2D graphics quality and includes additional gameplay elements such as power-ups and a much larger variety of enemies, such as crickets which jump up and down the edge of the monitor, then leap onto your craft. The "Challenge" stages are a heck of a lot harder now, and often include visual distractions and disorienting events like smoothly but quickly rotating the entire background and enemies 90 degrees, then back. After playing it a few times, I have quickly learned to enjoy it as much as the original. It's nice to hear the stereo sound and music too. They did an expert job updating this game, while staying closely to the original concept, and sustaining the nostalgia. The unique flight-paths of the enemies on each level really adds a lot of variety while playing the game, as do the 3 different power-ups (weapons) you can find. There is also an end-game boss now, but you can configure the game as to when it should show up (if ever). This is a great game, but so is Galaga, and I stil play both versions about equally.
