PacMan (part of the Namco Classics Vol. 2 PCB)

  • Players: 2 (alternating)
  • Game 1 of 7 on a multi-game PCB (Namco Classics Vol. 2)
  • Classic PacMan. If you haven't played it, or a variant of it, there's something wrong with you. :-) The original pacman featured only one maze. This game spawned truckloads of sequels. Probably the best sequal (at least as far as I'm concerned), is Ms. PacMan. However, the Arrangement version (described below) is quite fun too.

PacMan Arrangement (part of the Namco Classics Vol. 2 PCB)

  • Players: 2 (alternating)
  • Game 2 of 7 on a multi-game PCB (Namco Classics Vol. 2)
  • How do you improve on a game such as pacman? Well, add teleporters, Dash-points (cause you to run fast and stun ghosts you run into), more appealing multi-color graphics, a ghost which can change shape and attack pacman using various special abilities, the addition of power-ups for pacman to use (speed-boost, ghosts-go-home, and "personality-split" for lack of a better term, etc), and an all-new collection of mazes to keep you busy. The only compaint I have with this game is the ghosts seem to be completely brain-dead. In pacman, I believe the ghosts took advantage of "hints" placed in the level so as you ran around eating pellets, you would step on a hint spot, and there was a pre-programmed solution for the ghosts to be able to hunt you down. This made them look very smart, and often corner you or take you by surprize. Oh, one last thing added to PacMan Arrangement: A level-boss! A Boss in PacMan?!?!? Yup. But I won't say any more than that about it. In PacMan Arrangement, the ghosts now appear to move completely at random. They do not seem to make any co-ordinated attacks on you at all. Disappointing, but still all-in-all a fun game anyway.

My TableTop Pacman (click on thumbs)

This unit stands at approximately 8" x 6" and is 7.5" deep. It was designed as a portable game in the 80's, and the top of the device doubles as a handle (very effectively!) It features both single player and two-player simultaneous gameplay modes, plus a special game known as "eat & run" (only 4 pellets exist at the 4 points the super-pellets should be, and one ghost protects each. It's *very difficult* to sneak the pellets and survive). The display itself is very bright, and works best in the dark (it is NOT LCD). The machine operates on 4 "C" batteries. All artwork is intact on this unit, and in excellent condition, especially considering its' age. And it also still has the battery-door, which is often lost on this type of unit. This unit is still 100% functional and looks great :-)
